Kudos to Atif Shamim - The Phone Energizer

Atif Shamim ,a  electronics PhD student at Carleton University Canada has made Pakistanis all over the world proud . He’s patented a technique to extend the battery life of Blackberries and iPhones , hopefully for Nokia too upto 12 times it’s normal limit by getting rid of all the wires and  connect circuits wirelessly  through micro antennas embedded in the circuits .

'This has  not been tried before — that the circuits are connected to the antenna wirelessly. They've been connected through wires and a bunch of other components. That's where the power gets lost,' Mr. Shamim said." ( Pic from an earlier event )

His article co authored by  Muhammad Arsalan and Langis Roy  ( Advisor )   was named the best paper by European Wireless Technology Conference. where they have lauded it as

“excellent integration of system design, material sciences and electromagnetic antenna design.” and  “highly relevant, with large potential for commercialization.”

Previously Atif had also been awarded by Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation along with Arsalan for their  work in the field of wireless biomedical sensors

My advice to Nokia is to grab the patent which he has recently filed in USA and Canada . With Nokia’s latest products , battery power will become a major obstacle when using GPS , Widgets etc all the time and a power off will certainly put off the customers .  A 12 times increase ( theoretically ) in power can mean days of activity without a recharge , imagine the convenience of World Travelers.

Hats Off to Atif Shamim and Muhammad Arsalan

From a Pakistani and a Mobile Enthusiast
